85, of Van Wert, died at 6:42 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born August 22, 1923, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Jeremia B. and Mabel (Brewer) McNew. On October 18, 1946, she married Donald E. Smith, who preceded her in death on November 14, 2002.
Mrs. Smith was a loving mother and housewife.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl (Terry) Height-Goodspeed of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sons, Jerry (Sandy) Smith of Convoy and Neil Smith of Van Wert; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A brother, Raymond McNew; one sister, Marie Houts; a son-in-law, Jack Height; and one niece, Nancy Shriver, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Neil Hammons officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the funeral home.
