Bob G. Rhodes

84, of Van Wert, died at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

He was born August 17, 1924, in Mendon, the son of the late Walter and Grace (Coil) Rhodes. He married Betty Rhodes, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Rhodes retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation and did income tax preparation. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Pacific Theater of World War II from 1943-1946. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Middle Point, and American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert. He was also a member of the Van Wert Garden Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Robert (Brenda) Rhodes of Napoleon, Roger (Teresa) Rhodes of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Randy Rhodes of Va Wert; a daughter, Ronda (Dana) Pollock of Van Wert; two brothers, Ron (Earlene) Rhodes of Plain City and Guy (Susan) Rhodes of Bluffton; a sister, Betty (Calvin) Fox of Mendon; 11 grandchildren, Tina Rhodes, Heather Gonzales, Sarah Rhodes and Gabriel Rhodes, all of Fort Wayne, Bethany Rhodes of Columbus, Holly Rhodes of Bowling Green, Jeff Rhodes of San Antonio, Texas, Stacie Rhodes and Shellie Rhodes, both of Middle Point, and Kyle Pollock and Kiersten Pollock, both of Van Wert; and four great-grandchildren.

A sister, Bonnie Miller, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, December 5, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Tom Cover officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point, with military graveside rites performed by the combined honors unit of VFW Post 5803 and Legion Post 178.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, December 4, at the funeral home.
