84, of Van Wert, died at 10:13 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
He was born December 21, 1920, in Van Wert, the son of the late Clarence E. and Hazel Dell (Johnson) Eberle. On October 3, 1942, in Camp Swift, Texas, he married Juanita V. Lee, who died July 20, 2004.
Mr. Eberle worked 38 years for Federal Mogul Corporation's National Seal Division plant in Van Wert, 10 years for Acrix Security Company as a lieutenant and 10 years for The Times-Bulletin newspaper. He attended the former Grace Church in Middle Point and Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert. He was a member of American Legion Post 178 and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert. He served with General George Patton's 3rd Army in France, Belgium and Germany as a member of Company K, 378th Infantry, 95th Division, during World War II. He was wounded during the "Battle for Metz" by enemy mortar fire. He was a member of several area bowling teams and the 1st Corps, Civil War Living History Group of Northwest Ohio.
Survivors include two sons, Charles "Chuck" (Shelly) Eberle Jr. of Van Wert and Richard (Clara) Eberle Sr. of Middle Point; a daughter, Carole Conn of Van Wert; five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. "Bob" Eberle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Neil Hammons officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township.
Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are to the Renal Care Unit of Van Wert or the American Heart Association.
