age 68, of Van Wert, died at 9:55 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2006, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born November 22, 1937, in Van Wert, the son of Susie (Allen) Courtney, who survives in Van Wert, and the late Charles G. Parsons Sr. On November 3, 1958, he married Carol J. Hartman, who survives at the residence.
Mr. Parsons was a 30-year employee of the City of Van Wert, having retired as superintendent of the Street Department. For the last 11 years, he has been an employee of the Van Wert Solid Waste Management District and was serving on Van Wert City Council, representing the First Ward, at the time of his death. He was a longtime member and past president of Eagles Aerie 886 in Van Wert, was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1320 in Van Wert, the Convoy Fox Hunters and Van Wert Area Law Enforcement Association. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his mother and wife, survivors include two daughters, Linda (Mark) Strader of Decatur, Ind., and Therese (Daryl) Grime of Van Wert; a son, Dennis (Teresa) Parsons of Van Wert; two sisters, Donna (Gene) Goodwin of Van Wert and Peggy Parsons of Fort Madison, Iowa; a half-brother, Danny Parsons of Delphos; two half-sisters, Vicky Fisher of Lancaster and Jenny Tobias of Middle Point; five grandchildren, Travis, Nick, Misty, Trista and Marissa; seven stepgrandchildren, Justin, Hawk, Dakota, Jay, Brandon, Cindy and Lisa, and a great-grandson, Brandt.
Two sisters, Charlotte Ann and Nancy Sue Parsons, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 27, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller and Gary Jones officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Viewing hours are from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday, January 26, at the funeral home. Memorials are to the family.
