age 73, of Van Wert, passed away at 11:17 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2006, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born January 09, 1933, in Van Wert, Ohio, the son of the late Rev. Doyt and Margaret Fleming. On August 12, 1956, he married Marjorie "Marnie" Osborn, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Fleming was a graduate of Findlay High School (1951). He served two years in the U.S. Army. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from the University of Findlay (Findlay College) in 1958. After graduation, he returned to Van Wert, going into the Insurance Business with his grandfather, O.C. Fleming. Furthering his education, he received a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne. He continued on with post graduate courses in School Administration from Bowling Green University and the University of Dayton. In 1965 he became the Guidance Counselor at Crestview High School, Convoy, Ohio. Then in 1968 he took the position of Crestview High School Principal. In 1970 he became the Superintendent of the Crestview Local Schools, a position he held until he retirement in 1986. Following his retirement, he became the Athletic Director for Crestview Schools during the 1986-1987 School Year. Still involved in education, he served for a year as treasurer for the Van Wert County Schools. He was supervisor for the special classes held at the Cherry Street building in Van Wert. He served as the special education and pre-school supervisor at the Antwerp Schools for one year. He also was a counselor for the Van Wert County Drug and Alcohol Board. For 4 years he was the Program Director at the Marsh Foundation. Then for 5 1/2 years he served as Principal of the Lincolnview Langley School at the Starr Commonwealth. Due to ill health, he retired in September of 1998 after giving 40 years of service in various area of the educational field. He was very active in both the Convoy and Van Wert Communities. He was na organizational member of the Convoy Community Foundation, former member of the Convoy Lions Club, member of the organizational board of the Wee Care Day Care Center, member of hte Gideons (Van Wert), member of the organizational operating board of hte Pregnancy Life Center. He had a private counseling office for several years, and he and his wife owned and operated the Van Wert Gospel Gift Shop for 5 years. Clark was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert where he served in many capacities, holding numerous offices and positions within the church over the past 48 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Scott (Karen) Fleming of Van Wert, and Mark (Lori) Fleming of West Chester, Ohio, three daughters, Beth (Steve) Nelson of Findlay, Ohio, Karol (Bob) Caley of Huntington, Indiana, and Jill (John) Dortch of Oak Park, IL.. Eleven Grandchildren: Tori (Gary) Rice, Skyler, Jordan, Jaela, Rachel, Taylor and Reagan Fleming, Drew and Hannah Nelson, Allison Caley, Grant Dortch. One Great-Granddaughter, Will Rice. One sister, Jackie (Ned) Dillinger of Findlay, Ohio.
Services will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church, in Van Wert, Ohio Friday, March 03, 2006 with the Rev. Tim Burden officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours will be held from 2:00 - 8:00 Thursday, March, 02, 2006 at the funeral home in Van Wert and one hour prior to Services at the Church on Friday.
Preferred Memorials are to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the Van Wert Dialysis Renal Care Center.
