Darwin R. Frederick

Darwin R. Frederick, 91, of Van Wert, died at 3:16 AM Monday, February 4, 2013 at Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born in Ft. Wayne, IN on June 17, 1921, the son of the late William and Hazel (Grotian) Frederick. On February 21, 1946, he was united in marriage with Kathleen "Kate" (Murfield) Frederick, who survives him in Van Wert.
Darwin is also survived by three children: Richard (Linda) Frederick and Ann (Brennan Profit) Marshall, both of Van Wert, and Joan Frederick of Wasilla, Alaska; 5 grandchildren, Ryan (Tracee) Frederick of Chandler, AZ, Neil (Valerie) Frederick of Bradford, OH, Kenneth (Karri) Marshall of Centerville, OH, Dawn Marshall of Carey, NC and Peter Frederick of Wasilla, Alaska; 6 Great-Grandchildren; 2 siblings, Audrey Grabner of Roanoke, IN and Dallas Frederick of Bloomfield, IN.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Frederick; 3 Brothers, Ralph, Howard and Don Frederick.
Darwin was an Army Veteran of World War II in which he served in the 89th Cavalry Recon Squadron from 1943-1945. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and Remagen Bridge. He also saw action in the Ardennes, Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was an officer in the 89th Cavalry Association and a member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert.
He was the owner of Frederick Dodge from 1964-1986. Darwin lived in the Monroeville, IN until 1964 when he moved to Van Wert.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, February 7, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Friday February 8, 2013 at Brickner Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, preferred memorials are to Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
