Donald Earl Miller

June 22, 1913 — September 16, 2014

Donald Earl Miller, 101, passed away at 8:30 PM Tuesday, September, 16, 2014 at Vancrest Healthcare Center.  He was born June 22, 1913 in Van Wert to Paul and Letha Miller who are both deceased.  On January 13, 1943 he married Frances Marie (Parks) Miller in Mineral Wells, Texas.  She survives in Van Wert.  They have been married 71 years.

Other survivors include his son, Harold (Paula) Miller and his daughter, Sharon (Tom) Sass, three grand-daughters, Tiffany (Trevor) McKinney, Dawn (Brian) Gerber, and Holly Sass,  and one grandson, Sean Wagner.  Nine great grandchildren also survive.  Two nephews, Harry Fryer, Jr and Jerry (Marilyn) Fryer also survive.  Two sisters and one great grandson preceded him in death.

Donald was a member of First Baptist Church in Van Wert and American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert.  He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army for 3 1/2 years  during World War 2.

He had been employed as a shipping clerk for 37 years for the former Van Wert Manufacturing Company from which he was retired.  He was a Caddy Master at Willow Bend Golf Course.  He loved baseball and was a coach in the Pony and Little Leagues.

Donald loved his family and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, September 20, 2014 at First Baptist Church Van Wert with Rev. Steve Robinson officiating.  Visitation will be on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brickner Funeral Home and on Saturday at the church 1 hour prior to services.

Burial will take place in Van Wert Woodland Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites rendered by the Combined Honors Unit of American Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

In Donald's memory memorial gifts may be made to: First Baptist Church, Van Wert,  Vancrest Healthcare Activities Department, or Community Health Professionals Hospice Van Wert.
