Doyle E. Harris

Doyle E. (Gene) Harris, age 73, passed away at 7:05 AM Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Vancrest HealthCare Center.  He was born on February 17, 1942 in Paulding, Ohio a son of Walter F. and Marvel (Scott) Harris, both of whom are deceased.  Surviving are his wife, Jane A. (Myers).

Also surviving are his daughter, Nikki (Greg McCray) Harris of Van Wert, a step-daughter, Donna (Larry) Clouse, a step-son, Jim Myers of Van Wert.  Surviving grandchildren are, Maddux, Drew, Lexi, Tricia, Vivienne, Ross, Kim, Nathan, and Chris, and great grandchildren, Beth, Ila, Maggie and Cora.  He is also survived by a brother, Terry (Jill) Harris of Haviland, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Don, Mary Lou, Bill, and John.

He had worked as a skilled tradesman most of his life, first at National Seal for about ten years and then at the Chrysler plant for 20 years.  He was a member of the United Auto Workers.  After he retired from Chrysler he liked to tinker in his garage finding innovative ways to solve problems. Gene had served in the U S Army during the Viet Nam Era.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Brickner Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, August 14, 2015.  Private family burial will be at a later date with military honors by the Combined Honors Unit of American Legion Post 178 and V F W Post 5803 of Van Wert.
