94, of Van Wert, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
He was born May 2, 1915, in Washington Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Fred and Gertrude (Friemoth) Pohlman. He married Mary E. (McCracken) Pohlman, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Pohlman retired as executive secretary-treasurer of The Marsh Foundation after 47 years of service. Prior to working at the Marsh, he had worked at the former Three Double As for five years. He was a graduate of the former Northwestern School of Commerce.
Mr. Pohlman was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society, the St. Mary's Golden Oldies, the Sportsman's Club, St. Mary's Building and Maintenance Committee during the building of the present church, Van Wert County Farm Bureau and had been very active in the former Van Wert Kiwanis Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Robert G. and Elmer Pohlman, and three sisters, Henrietta Pothast, Dorothy Schwinnen and Alice Pothast, also preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Mike Zacharias officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 that evening.
