Jerry L. Dix

62, of Van Wert, died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2007, at the Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born December 14, 1944, in Fort Wayne Indiana, the son of the late Carroll J. and Alice A. (Frye) Dix, whom survives in Woodburn Indiana. On April 23,1966 he married Karla J. (Butler) Dix, who survives at home.

Mr. Dix had been a Van Wert County Sheriff's Deputy since January 15, 1979, having served under Sheriff's Don Thomas, Jerry Brittsan, and Stan Owens, he was also a Convoy Village Marshall, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 62 in Van Wert. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He was also a member of the Van Wert American Legion Post 178, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 in Van Wert. He was a 1964 graduate of Woodlan, Indiana High School and attended the former Van Wert Giffin College for two years. He was also a member of the Ohio Buckeye Sheriff's Assocation, Convoy Fox Hunters Club, Teamsters Union, and the Van Wert Amateur Radio Club. He was a former 4-H Advisor and Past President of the Van Wert Lions Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Wendi (Scott) Creed of New Haven Indiana and Tricia Dix of Van Wert; two grandaughters, Kaytlyn and Taylor Creed of New Haven, Indiana; two brothers, Charles (LeAnne) Dix of Greenfield, Indiana and Paul Dix of Woodburn, Indiana; two sisters, Kathy Hines of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Betty (Jeff) Stieglitz of Harlan, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Worden.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 30, at the Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007 at the funeral home, with Fraternal Order of Police Services at 8 pm. Internment will be at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, where Military Graveside rites will be given by the combined Honors Unit of the American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5803.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Van Wert County Hospital Employees Assistance Fund or the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
