John Patrick Mccarthy

John Patrick McCarthy, age 88, of Van Wert died at 12:13 PM Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Vancrest Healthcare Center.  He was born on December 31, 1925 in Ann Arbor, MI, a son of James Patrick & Hazel (Sweeney) McCarthy, both of whom are deceased.  On June 27, 1953, he married Margaret Blasko.  She died January 24, 2012.

He is survived by three sons and a daughter, Michael J. (Suzanne) McCarthy of Lewis Center, OH, James "Jim" (Jennifer) McCarthy of Mariemont, OH, Anne E. (Jack) Moses of Palo Alto, CA, and Patrick J. McCarthy of Cincinnati, OH, eight grandchildren: Sean (Melissa) McCarthy, Jared McCarthy, Erin Schmidt, Graham McCarthy, Nicholas McCarthy, Jackson Moses, Sam Moses and Tucker Moses, two great-grandchildren: Ella McCarthy and John McCarthy, a brother, James McCarthy, and a sister, Mary LeBlanc.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine McCarthy.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert,  where he had been an usher for many years.  He had served in the U. S. Navy during World War ll and was a member of American Legion Post 178 and  V F W Post 5803.  He was also a member of BPOE Lodge 1197 in Van Wert.  Earlier, he had worked on several Habitat for Humanity Homes.  He was a long time employee of the  Aeroquip Corporation

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Stanley Syzbka officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with military graveside honors by the Combined Honors Unit of American Legion Post 178 and V F W Post 5803 of Van Wert.  Visitation will be at Brickner Funeral Home on Thursday, December 18, 2014 from 2-4 & 6:30-8:30 PM with a Rosary Service at 8:30 PM.  Following the cemetery service, a luncheon reception will be held at St. Mary's Church hall.
