Joseph Philip Showalter, 76, of Grover Hill, died at 4:38 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville, IN.
He was born April 24, 1934, in Cloverdale, OH, the son of the late Simon Sylvester and Marie Violet (Campbell) Showalter. He married Norma Jean (Pratt) Showalter on September 5, 1953 and she preceded him in death.
He worked as a trackman for Norfolk & Western Railroad and also as a Minister. Joseph was also a member of Hendricks County Senior Center in Indiana and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees (Railroad).
Survivors include six children, Peggy Jo (David L.) Showalter Smith of Coatesville, IN, Donald Eugene (Cindy Sue) Showalter of Grover Hill, OH, Erwin LeRoy (Sheree Lynn) Showalter of Faubush, KY, Mark Luther (Pamela) Showalter of Waynesburg, KY, Raymond Phillip Showalter and Kathy Sue Showalter-Swicker both of Van Wert, OH; one sister, Stella Rosella Winters of Florence, FL; 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, a sister, Mary Warnecke and two brothers, Erwin T. Showalter and Virgil Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert. The Rev. Don Donnelly will officiate. Calling will be Tuesday, March 29, 2011, from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery in Grover Hill.
