91, of Van Wert, died at 10:25 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2005, at his residence.
He was born March 27, 1913, in Paulding County, the son of the late Thomas and Grace (Stillman) Campton. On June 26, 1948, he married Dorothy L. McCleary, who died September 20, 1995.
Mr. Campton was employed by the former Continental Can Company for 39 years and also farmed. Following his retirement he was employed by Van Wert City Schools in meal delivery for 10 years. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He also belonged to American Legion Post 178, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1320 and Knights of Columbus Council 6034, all in Van Wert. He graduated from Hoaglin-Jackson High School, where he played basketball.
Survivors include three daughters, Sue (Jerry) Holland of Spencerville and Mary Mason and Kay (Randy) Burley, both of Van Wert; a son, Tom Campton of Florida; one sister, Lucille Albright of Van Wert, and six grandchildren, Brian Beck, Julie Wortman, Andrea Mason, Lea Mason, Liz Burley and Lydia Burley.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Howard Campton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, February 28, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by the combined honors guards of Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.
Calling hours are 4-9 p.m. Sunday, February 27, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where a parish wake service will be held at 8:30 that evening.
