Louis J. Lianez, 90, of Van Wert died at 8:55 PM Tuesday, February 17, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice. He was born September 12, 1924 in Paulding the son of Genorro and Vincinta Lianez. On January 19, 1942 he married Antonia Vargas and she preceded him in death October 9, 2001.
He is survived by his five children: Emanuel J. Lianez of Harisonburg, VA- David M. (Jane) Lianez of Van Wert- Judy A. Eiting of Ft. Wayne, IN- John Lianez of Van Wert- Thomas C. (Beth) Lianez of Zanesville, Ohio- 11 Grandchildren-24 Great Grandchildren- 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson and 2 sisters.
Mr. Lianez had been a longtime employee of the former Continental Can Co. from which he retired.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 6034. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII having served aboard the USS Massachusetts. He was a member of the Van Wert Police Department Reserve- American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 both of Van Wert.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Saturday February 21, 2015 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery with Military Graveside Service by the combined Honors Unit of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803. Calling will be on Friday, February 20, 2015, from 2 to 6 at Brickner Funeral Home with recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM.
Preferred Memorials are to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
