Mabel M. Block of Van Wert died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2006, at Convoy Care Center.
She was born to the late Martin and Ella Schul and married Emmett L. Block in June 1931.
Mrs. Block came to Van Wert in June 1931 as the bride of Emmett Block, who purchased the Brookside Dairy and Drive-In in September 1931. She contributed in many ways to the operation of the business and was always willing to help her family members as well. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Gardner of Van Wert and Margaret (Ed) Price of Peach Tree, Ga.; a son-in-law, Roger (Barbara) Welch of Convoy; her only sibling, Roy Schul of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Debra Welch of Pahoa, Hawaii, Tony (Patty) Gardner of New Haven, Ind., Keith (Mitzi) Gardner of Decatur, Ind., Janet (Rob English) Price of Manhasset, N.Y., Laura (Michael) Woitovich of Hilliard and Susan (Randy) Logan of Peachtree City, Ga.; and 14 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Dorothy Welch, and a son-in-law, Sandy Gardner, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 17, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor William C. Haggis officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, at the funeral home.
