86, of Van Wert, died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2008, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born May 7, 1922, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late F. Earl and Clo (Harting) Shaffer. On October 5, 1947, in First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert, she married John Fox Maney, who died March 1, 2004.
Mrs. Maney had worked side by side with her husband, John, at the family business, the former Van Wert Bootery.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, where she had served as the church's first woman lay leader. She was a gifted musician with a great love of music. She used her talents to accompany many area soloists and groups. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist choir and the former Harmonettes. She was very active in community events and she and her sister, Betty, were referred to as "Earl's Girls." For a period of time she hosted the program "Footnotes" on WERT Radio. She loved to travel and for many years she and her husband made trips to Hawaii. She was devoted to her family, church, community and country.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Dr. Kevin J. (Dondra Taylor) Maney of Westerville; a grandson, J. Spencer Maney of Oxford; one granddaughter, Bridget Maney of Oxford; a sister, Betty Jones of Van Wert; and a niece, Ann (David) Rees of Van Wert.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 7, at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul Miller and Rev. Dillon Staas officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, September 6, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.
