Margaret A. Markward

76, of Van Wert, died at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was born March 15, 1929, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Smith) McCleary. On May 2, 1953, she married Urban G. Markward, who survives in Van Wert.

Mrs. Markward was a retired bookkeeper for the Arend, Laukhuf & Stoller Inc. accounting firm in Van Wert. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, its Rosary Altar Society and Paula Study Club, Twig I of Van Wert County Hospital (co-treasurer) and numerous other charitable organizations. She was a 1947 graduate of Van Wert High School.

In addition to her husband, survivors include four sons, David J. Markward of Van Wert and his family, Shannon Markward, Jordan (Paige) Markward, Taylor Markward and Logan Markward; Stephen C. (Loretta) Markward of Van Wert and his family, Chris (Eli) Rodriguez and daughter Devyn, Tanya Kennedy and daughter Morgan, Jessica (Matt) Weisse and sons Kollin, Kade and Keaton and Heather Markward, Timothy P. Markward of Warsaw, Ind., and daughter Maggie Markward, and Kenneth J. (Marie) Markward and his family, Crista, Tina, Cody and Caleb Markward; two daughters, Elaine (Donald Jr.) Bragg of Van Wert and her family, Jeremy, Justin and Jayme Bragg, and Linda Markward of Van Wert; two brothers, James (Bernadette) McCleary of Anderson, Ind., and John (Joan) McCleary of New Orleans, La.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Joshua Bragg and Zachary Markward, and two sisters, Catherine McCleary and Dorothy Campton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Brickner Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 that evening.
