Margaret P. McCarthy, 86, of Van Wert died on January 24, 2012 at Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born on October 20, 1925, in Johnson City, NY, to Michael and Susan (Hudy) Blasko, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 27, 1953, she married John P. McCarthy, who survives in Van Wert.
Margaret graduated from Johnson City Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Johnson City, NY. She had a Bachelor of Science in Nurse and worked at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, St. Rita's Hospital in Lima, OH and Van Wert County Hospital. She retired in November 1986. Margaret was an active member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She was a member of Van Wert County Hospital TWIGS group and volunteered at STARR Commonwealth.
She is survived by her husband, John; her 4 children, Michael J. (Suzanne) McCarthy of Orange Township, OH, James "Jim" P. (Jennifer) McCarthy of Mariemont, OH, Anne E. (Jack) Moses of Palto Alto, CA, and Patrick J. McCarthy of Cincinnati, OH; her 8 grandchildren, Sean (Melissa) McCarthy, Jared McCarthy, Erin Schmidt, Graham McCarthy, Nicholas McCarthy, Jackson Moses, Sam Moses and Tucker Moses; 1 great granddaughter, Ella McCarthy; a sister, Anne Hacker of Payson, AZ. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Margaret is preceded in death by parents, Michael and Susan (Hudy) Blasko, 2 brothers, John and Joseph Blasko, and a sister, Elizabeth Natyshak.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 27, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 that evening.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Stanley Szybka officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Preferred memorials are donation to Van Wert County Hospital.
