Marilyn R. Darwood, 78, of Van Wert, died at 5:06 a.m. Sunday, November 7, 2010, at her residence.

She was born May 6, 1932, in Deshler, the daughter of the late Eugene and Ruth (Lazenby) King. On July 16, 1955, she married Arthur J. Darwood, who preceded her in death on June 26, 2005.

Mrs. Darwood was former chief of pharmacy at Van Wert County Hospital and was also a pharmacist at the former Downtown Drug Company in Van Wert and Miller Drug Store in Kalida. She received her registered nurse's degree from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich., and her pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University in Ada. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 178 in Van Wert.

Survivors include four children, John (Maria) Darwood of Merritt Island, Fla., Jean (Tom) Greenawalt of Palm Harbor, Fla., David (Lillian) Darwood of West Burlington, Iowa, and Jacqueline (Brad) Tracy of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Irene "Sis" Franz of Deshler; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer Rotsinger of St. Petersburg, Fla., Katy Quiles of Watertown, N.Y., Dustin Tracy of Tampa, Fla., Nicholas Tracy of Tallahassee, Fla., Lindsay Tracy of Lakeland, Fla., and Elizabeth Darwood and Rachel Darwood, both of Merritt Island, Fla.

A sister, Betty Meyer, also preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Mike Zacharias officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Deshler.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 that evening.

Preferred memorials: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
