Mary B. Schaadt

July 6, 1913 — April 30, 2005

91, of Van Wert, died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Van Wert Manor nursing home.

She was born July 6, 1913, in Penfield, Ill., the daughter of the late Bernard J. and Julia (Early) Flaherty. On February 28, 1938, she married Romy W. Schaadt, who died August 13, 1998.

Mrs. Schaadt was a resident of Ridge Township from the age of 2 years and helped farm the family farm from the age of 12. She also worked for many years on the Ridge Township election board. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and its Rosary Altar Society. She attended the former Ridge School and, in 1954, won the Van Wert County Women's Plowing Contest.

Survivors include three sons, Rex (Alice) Schaadt and Bernie (Kathy) Schaadt, both of Middle Point, and Kent (Glenda) Schaadt of Van Wert; four daughters, Joan Blankemeyer of Westerville, Monica (Jerry) Richey of Middle Point, Marcia (Leroy) Kill of Venedocia and Valeria (William) Teman of Delphos; two sisters, Ann Cooper of Mount Gilead and Theresa Childers of Naples, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John, in infancy, one sister, Katherin Geis, and a granddaughter, Celeste Blankemeyer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the funeral home, where a rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. that evening.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Middle Point EMS squad and the Van Wert Manor Activities Fund.
