Maureen Elizabeth Dunn

71, of Van Wert, Ohio, mother and grandmother, entered into eternal life on May 20, 2008, after a short illness. Maureen died peacefully in her daughter's home surrounded by family and close friends. Maureen was born on December 10, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Helen and Kenneth Cassidy. Maureen grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan and graduated from Shrine of the Little Flower in 1955. She continued her education and graduated from Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in 1958. She had a distinguished and selfless career with the Wee Care Learning Center where she worked as a director from 1980-2008. Maureen lived a life of unselfish acts of kindness. She touched the lives of countless people with her quiet generosity. She valued all people and did what she could to improve their lives. She will be deeply missed.

Maureen cherished many long-lasting friendships throughout her life as well as her career with Wee Care Learning Center. Maureen was a faithful and devoted member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, and Maureen also enjoyed her time giving of herself to others and time spent traveling with family and friends.

Maureen is survived by her children, Anne Knapke, Patrick (Susie) Dunn, Rob (Alisha) Dunn, Kathleen (Dan) Nowak. Grandchildren: Benjamin, Alexander, and Douglas Knapke: Kaity, Emily and Allison Dunn: Jacob, Matthew, Grace and Molly Nowak: Dylan Dunn. Brothers: Patrick (Claudia) Cassidy and Gerald Cassidy, as well as many friends and extended family.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Helen Cassidy and her brother, Bernard Cassidy.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Matthew Miller and Dr. Jeff Easley of Van Wert, Dr. Stephen Andrews of Toledo, and Caring Services Hospice for the extraordinary care given to Maureen.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Van Wert, Ohio on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 9:00 AM.

Family and friends will be received at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, Ohio on Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. and on Friday, May 23, 2008 from 2:00 PM - 9:00 PM. with a Rosary Service being held at 8:30 PM.

Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Detroit, MI on Saturday afternoon.
