Monica F. Richey, 62, of Van Wert passed away peacefully with family after a 2 year battle with breast cancer.
Born on June 2, 1949, to the late Romy and Mary (Flaherty) Schaadt. She was a graduate of Lincolnview High School in 1967. On January 6, 1968, she married Gerald Richey, who survives in Van Wert.
Monica was an active member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and a school of religion teacher for 25 years. She is most widely known and loved as the Lincolnview school bus driver for over 37 years.
Monica is preceded in death by parents, Romy Schaadt and Mary (Flaherty) Schaadt, a brother, John Schaadt, and a niece, Celeste Blankemeyer.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; her 6 children, Bridget Richey of Columbus, Sheridan Richey of Columbus, Jared (Cindy) Richey of Hilliard, Adam Richey of Antwerp, Patrick Richey of Middle Point and Molly (Trevor) Berryman of Middle Point; her 9 grandchildren, Nicolas, Abigail, Brian, Catlyn, Hanna, Grace, Zachary, Holly, and Mylie; 6 siblings, Joan Blankemeyer of Van Wert, Rex (Alice) Schaadt of Middle Point, Bernie (Kathy) Schaadt of Middle Point, Marcia (Leroy) Kill of Venedocia, Valeria (William) Teman of Delphos and Kent (Glenda) Schaadt of Van Wert.
Monica was passionate about caring for her grandchildren and family and loved driving her school bus. She is loved and will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Friday, November 25, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 that evening.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Stanley Szybka officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Monica's name.
