85, of Grover Hill, died at 5:50 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
He was born August 18, 1922, in Dupont, the son of the late Henry Ladd and Ila (Coble) Ladd-Saylor. On June 18, 1960, he married Irene E. Ladd, who died February 23, 2001.
Mr. Ladd drove truck for 15 years and retired from S.E. Johnson Company after 30 years. He also donated his time to Ebel's Butcher Shop in Grover Hill for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Brotherhood of Operating Engineers.
Survivors include two brothers, Enoch Saylor of Charloe and David (Jackie) Saylor of Defiance; one sister, LaDonna Mae Pfost of Scott; a niece, Ramona (Regis) Walter, who had been Mr. Ladd's caregiver for many years, and a number of other nieces and nephews, great-nephews and nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Helen English and Jo Ann Stuckey, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery in Grover Hill, with military graveside rites performed by the combined honors units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.
Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Paulding Visiting Nurses Association.
