Raymond L. Coleman

Raymond L. Coleman died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born January 15, 1921, in Lodi, OH, the son of the late Raymond F. and Marie (Marble) Coleman. On February 3, 1945, he married Patricia (Steinmetz) Coleman, who preceded him in death on July 8, 2005.

Mr. Coleman graduated from Martins Ferry High School. He retired from Continental Can after 37 years of service. He was in the Army Air Force during World War II and was stationed at Ascension Island. He was a lifetime member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1320 where he was a Past Governor and a longtime member of the ritual staff, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178, all in Van Wert.

Survivors include his children, Ronald L. (Linda) Coleman of Ocala, FL, Paula M. (Larry) Giessler of Van Wert, OH, and Kathy J. (Gregg) Perry of Monroeville, IN; a sister, Dorothy Snyder and a brother, Richard Coleman both of Martins Ferry, OH; Four grandchildren, Trevor Coleman of Toledo, OH, Adam Giessler of Columbus, OH, Erin (Phillip) Morton of Elida, OH and Alisha (Charles) Buchanan of Whitehouse, OH; Three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Sydney Morton of Elida, OH and Audie Buchanan of Whitehouse, OH.

A brother, Donald Coleman preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors unit of Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Van Wert Council on Aging.
