Raymond T. Vanwynsberghe, Jr

April 7, 1930 — December 20, 2008

78, of Van Wert, died Saturday evening, December 20, 2008, at his residence.

He was born April 7, 1930, in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Raymond VanWynsberghe Sr. and Alberta (VanSevecotte) VanWynsberghe. On June 21, 1953, he married Patty (Gillespie) VanWynsberghe, who survives.

In addition to being a life long farmer in Van Wert County, Mr. VanWynsberghe also worked at International Harvester, Studebaker, U.S. Rubber, Standard Oil, Aeroquip, and National Seal. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Yokohama, Japan during the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and was a member of American Legion Post 178, both in Van Wert.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Danny (Rose Marie) VanWynsberghe of Key West, Fla., and Dewey (Rachel) VanWynsberghe of Van Wert; a daughter, Mary (Vern) Schulte of Van Wert; one brother, Abe (Donna) VanWynsberghe of Summerton, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, Drs. Amy (Jarod) Swant of Nashville, Tenn., Drs. Adam (Priscilla) VanWynsberghe of San Diego, Calif., Dawn (Ron) Grubb of Convoy, Staff Sgt. Jason (Kailey) Schulte of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tiffany Schulte of Grover Hill, and Una VanWynsberghe and Siska VanWynsberghe, both of Van Wert; two great-grandchildren, Gavin Grubb and Rebecca Schulte; and several cousins.

Two daughters, Cynthia and Linda VanWynsberghe; a sister, Marie DeLaurelle; and one brother, Joe DeLaurelle; also preceded him in death.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, at Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township, with military rites performed by the combined honors unit of Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Monday, December 22, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.
