Richard A. Schumm

69, of Van Wert, died at 11:53 a.m. Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

He was born February 23, 1940, in Van Wert, the son of the late Arthur A. and Erna W. (Klenk) Schumm. On Saturday, March 1, 1958, he married Ann (Feeney) Schumm, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Schumm was owner of Richard A. Schumm Plumbing and Heating Inc. for 47 years. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert, a member of Moose Lodge 1321 in Van Wert, Coldwater Eagles lodge, National Rifle Association, Van Wert Outdoorsmen's Club, and was president of the Community Health Professionals Board for 26 years.

He was an avid snowmobile enthusiast, dancer, boater, fisherman, golfer and trapshooter. He especially loved his family time with his kids and grandkids. He was dedicated to his business and the many friendships he made through it over the years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Vickie Schumm of Colorado, and Susan K. (Jeff) Triplett and Shelly R. (Terry) Rolfes, both of Celina; five grandchildren, Joshua Rolfes, Logan Rolfes, Luke Rolfes, Chloe Triplett and Jacob Triplett, all of Celina; two stepgrandchildren, Danielle Rolfes and Neil Rolfes, both of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Ralph (Donna) Schumm of Bluffton, Ind., Ron (Shirley) Schumm of Van Wert and David (Lois) Schumm of California; and a sister, Mary (Jim) Van Fleet of Westerville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Lance O'Donnell officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
