Richard Frederick Watson of Van Wert died at 12:50 PM Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Van Wert County Hospital. He was born on December 5, 1927 at Antwerp, Ohio the son of Frederick & Erma (Utterbach) Watson who are both deceased. He was married to Beverly (Campbell) Watson who is also deceased.
Surviving are 4 Daughters: Marcha (Dave) Waldron of Van Wert, Debbie Watson of Van Wert, Vickie Hook of Wapakoneta and Connie White of Van Wert and 1 Son: Terry (Dawn) Watson of Convoy, OH. He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren, 14 Great Granchildren and 3 Sisters: Nancy Hamilton of Dallas, TX, Judy Helly of Toledo, OH, and Pansy Kundiff of New Lebanon, OH.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Richard Watson and 4 Brothers: Charles, Robert, Glenn and Carl Watson.
He retired from Dana Corp. in Fort Wayne, IN after 25 years of employment. He also did gardening and tree trimming for people in the Van Wert area. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the occupation of Japan. He was a life member of VFW Post 5803 of Van Wert.
Some of his favorite activities included bowling (former member of the American Bowling Congress), playing euchre, fishing, horseshoes, gardening, archery and watching western movies and television shows.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Thursday Sept. 5, 2013 at Brickner Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Savage officiating. Calling will be from 2 - 8 PM Wednesday September 4, 2013 at Brickner Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to services on Thursday. Burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery. Military Honors will be in charge of the Combined Honors Unit of VFW Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178 of Van Wert.
