Robert A. Young

age 75, of Van Wert, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born March 18, 1931, in Piqua, Ohio, the son of the late Robert J. and Lucille (Gilbert) Young. He married Shirley J. Knodel on October 03, 1954, who survives.

Mr. Young had worked at National Seal, the former Knodels IGA, Short Stop, and had retired from the Ohio Dept. of Transportation as a road and bridge inspector. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of American Legion Post 178. He had served 12 years on Van Wert City Council. He was a former Scoutmaster and a Red Cross volunteer.

In addition to his wife survivors include, a son, Timothy (Jennifer)Young of Bexley, OH., a daughter, Kathy Neal of Mesquite, TX., a brother, John (Marian)Young of Cedar Rapids, IA., a sister, Nancy Uncapher of Gary, IN., Sangie Airhart (grandchild), Josh Amrhein (grandchild), Colon Young (grandchild), Meagan Amrhein (great grandchild).

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Young, a sister, Margaret (Bill) Hughes, and his Step-mother, Romaine Young..

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2006 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert, with the Rev.Tim Burden officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert with military graveside rites by the Combined Honors Unit of American Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

Visitation is from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. & 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
