Valrea M. Myers, age 88, of Van Wert, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at 5:26 PM, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born May 17, 1923, in Fort Wayne, IN, the daughter of the late Elmer A. and Bertha L. (Harrison) Winters. On January 30, 1945, she married Joseph J. Myers who preceded her in death February 5, 2005.

She is survived by her children: James A. (Jeanne G. Maj.(Ret)USAF) Myers Col.(Ret)USAF, Fairborn, OH- Carolyn S. Baker, Estero, FL- Mary Lou (Rudy B.) Oakley, Grover Hill, Ohio- Rita D. Myers, Van Wert- Ruth Ann (Kenneth MSgt.(Ret) USAF)Schutz,Van Wert- Her Brother, Bill J. (Nancy) Winters, New Haven, IN- 13 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, and Special Family Lori, Alan, and Ciara Becker. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elmer J. Winters, Sister, Thelma Updegrove, Son-in-law, James R. Baker, and Great Great Grandson, Bentley Goins.

Upon graduation from Van Wert High School in 1940, Valrea attended the former Van Wert Business School and then entered the Nurses Aid Program at the Van Wert Co. Hospital. She worked in the office of the former DJ Gunsett Co. and then went to Washington, DC, where she worked for the American Red Cross. Valrea was very active in her church having taught Sunday School, Bible School, AWANA, and Home Bible Club. She was also the Church Clerk, President of the Ladies Missionary Society, Janitor and Grounds Keeper. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and a long time volunteer with the Washington School PTA.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Myers will be at 10:30 AM Friday, October 7, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Van Wert, with Pastor Steve Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call at Brickner Funeral Home Thursday, October 6, from 2 - 8 PM and at First Baptist Church on Friday, October 7, from 9:30 AM to Time of Service.

Preferred Memorials are donations to First Baptist Church.
