William R. May, Sr. of Van Wert died at 9:12 AM Monday, January 18, 2016 at Van Wert Co. Hospital. He was born November 8, 1930 in Delphos to the late Roy "Bud" and Norma (Hartman) May. On September 1, 1989 he married Dorothy (Miller) Protsman who survives in Van Wert.
Bill was a 1949 graduate of Van Wert High School. He retired from Alexander & Bebout after 27 years of service. He served in the US Army from 1950 to 1953 in Korea. He was a member and past commander of Van Wert American Legion Post 178, Van Wert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, Van Wert Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1320, and the Lima Eagles. He was a Past President of the former Van Wert Eagles.
Survivors include five sons: Freeman (Diana) May,Wlliam R. May, Jr., and Roy May all of Van Wert-Jeffrey (Tammy) May of Grover Hill- Michael (Joelle) May of Biloxi, Mississippi- Step-son Michael Protsman of Van Wert- Grandchildren Chaise & Blaise May, Seth May, Starrae' & Crystal Protsman, Heather (Greg) Bartal, Joshua (Shannon) Boroff, Natasha Boroff, Ben Kochert, Jordan Kochert, and Alexandra (Jason) Loris. Great Grandson Cooper May and 7 Step great grandchildren and a sister Ruby (Earl) Fulk.
He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Margaret "Peg" and Don Miller and a daughter-in-law Wilma L. May.
He also leaves behind his two faithful companions Mike and Molly.
He also attended Trinity Friends Church.
Funeral Services will at 11:00 AM Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 at Brickner Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Hammons officiating. Military rites will be rendered by the Honors Unit of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, Friends may call at Brickner Funeral Home Friday Jan. 22, 2016 from 2 - 8 PM.
