Patrick H. Maher was born June 1, 1924 in Celina, Ohio to Patrick H. & Catherine (Hempfling) Maher. He was first married to Randi Narvensen of Norway and they had a son, Patrick A. "Andy" (Lora) Maher of Middlebury, OH. Patrick A. and Lora had a son Patrick of Van Wert. On October 31, 1993 Patrick H. Maher married Phyllis (Poling). With this marriage he became Uncle-Dad to five: Bob (Patty) Maher of Findlay, Marcia (Scot) Osenga of Van Wert, John (Kathy) Maher of Centerburg, Maryann (Richard) Bogart of Worthington, OH and Randy Maher who is deceased. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and a nephew.
On November 1, 1968 he retired as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Army after 23 1/2 years of service. He served in W W 2, Korea and Vietnam. Following his military service he worked for Baggett Trucking in Missouri and Utah as a dispatcher for 20 years. While living in Salem, Utah he instituted a new Knights of Columbus council in Payson, Utah.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 9561 in Utah and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Life Member of V F W Post 5803 Van Wert and Van Wert Elks Lodge 1197.
He loved spending time with his family, cooking, reading novels and doing crossword puzzles.
There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in the future.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date with full Army Burial Honors.
Preferred memorials are to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church (memorial envelopes may be picked up at Brickner Funeral Home or the Church).
